MATLAB / MathWorks installation and activation

Introduction 

This article links to knowledge base of MathWorks on how to install their products using network license and on offline machines. 

If you have a working step-by-step procedure for yourself, please share it in the Community section and we'll update this article.

Be aware that this installation guide is dependent on whether your organization offers Matlab in a workspace.

General Requirements

  2. File Installation Key
    1. Upload the File Installation Key to the Workspace (saves typing)
    2. Get in touch with Support Team when a organization license must be used
  3. Matlab installables uploaded to the Workspace
    1. Get in touch with Support Team when a organization license must be used
    2. Make sure you have the right version
  4. Additional required software uploaded to the Workspace, see
    1. MATLAB and Simulink Requirements
    2. Configure Your Java Environment
      1. Java Developer's Kit (JDK)

Matlab using Tenant's License Server

Tenant = Name of the organization to which the Workspace belongs to.

Requirements

  1. System Requirements for MATLAB - MATLAB & Simulink (mathworks.com)
    1. If performance is insufficient, please consider to resize the VM to 4 cores or more during actual usage, not needed for installation
  2. File Installation Key
    1. Contact the Support Team of the Tenant via Ticket
    2. Upload the File Installation Key to the Workspace (saves typing)
  3. Matlab installable
    1. Contact the Support Team of the Tenant via Ticket
    2. Upload to you Workspace
  4. Upload additional required software to the Workspace, see
    1. MATLAB and Simulink Requirements
    2. Configure Your Java Environment
      1. Java Developer's Kit (JDK)

Installation steps

  1. Run setup.exe as admin (right click setup.exe: run as administrator)
    1. If the setup cannot be ran as admin, copy the all the setup files to Windows desktop and run setup.exe as admin
  2. Fill in the File Installation Key
  3. Select the License File (license.dat)
    1. Browse to the Matlab setup directory, select the license.dat file
      1. If missing contact the Support Team of the organization
      2. Upload the license.dat file to your Workspace and put it on your desktop
  4. Select the needed modules
It might be that the License Manager must be installed, also use license.dat

First time

  1. Copy the license.dat to: c:\program files\MATLAB\Rxxxx
  2. Run Matlab as admin (right click, run as admin)
  3. Activate manually
  4. Enter the full path
    1. Navigate to: c:\program files\MATLAB\Rxxxx
    2. Select: license.dat

Install MATLAB or other MathWorks products on offline machine
