Connecting to the Radboud Data Repository

The Radboud Data Repository (RDR) is used to archive and share research data collected by researchers associated with Radboudumc and/or Radboud University. All information about the RDR can be found on the RDR Help pages. The article below explains how to directly access your data collection in the RDR within the DRE to transfer your data.

Transferring data to and from the RDR can be done directly in the web portal or through a WebDAV client such as Cyberduck. For direct transfer through the web portal, you need to be able to connect via SurfConext, which goes partly via a secure login of the Radboudumc itself. That is why this option is not available within the DRE.

Setting up a connection

To connect to the RDR from your virtual machine, you need the following:
  1. data.ru.nl allowlisted for your workspace (see Domain Allowlisting)
  2. Cyberduck installed on your virtual machine (either using the Radboudumc Software Installer or by uploading and running the install file retrieved from the Cyberduck website)
Next, follow steps 1-3 on the RDR instructions page for Cyberduck.
You wil be instructed to retrieve a special username and password from data.ru.nl, which you cannot log in to from your virtual machine. Since copy-pasting between your own computer and your virtual machine is not possible, consider copying the username and password to a .txt file and uploading it to your workspace.

Uploading data

To upload your data to your collection in the RDR, follow steps 4 and 5 of the Cyberduck instructions. Finally, make sure to check the upload success (step 6 and Check transferred data) before removing the files from your DRE workspace storage. For this, you need to have the HashCheck tool installed on your virtual machine (either using the Radboudumc Software Installer or by uploading and running the install file retrieved from Github).
Because you cannot log in to the RDR website from your virtual machine, you need to generate the manifest file outside the DRE and then upload it to your workspace.
