2021-W51 anDREa Update

Last weekly update from anDREa in 2021

The current year has been an exciting year for anDREa. Quite some researchers have been using the platform since the researchenvironment.org days, the DRE on the Radboudumc Azure cloud. In March 2021, mydre.org was introduced in a so-called Shared Tenant setting (want to know more about what the Shared Tenant is, please visit myDRE - pencilling out the Shared Tenant). The anDREa consortium was founded by the three founding University Medical Centers (Radboudumc, UMC Utrecht and Erasmus MC) in 2019, but in July 2021 anDREa B.V. was founded as a separate entity to ensure long-term commitment to the myDRE platform. Now, in December 2021, we end the year with over 3.500 researchers on the platform and over 1.000 active workspaces.

We would like to express our gratitude to the local support teams that handle all the tickets, all the representatives from the different UMCs that channel the wishes and needs of the researchers and of course all of you that use the myDRE platform to increase research efficiency in a secure manner in the cloud. We would also like to thank the anDREa developers team that created many great features this year.

Happy holidays!

DRE support out-of-office during the holiday period

The local support teams are enjoying their holidays from December 24th 2021 until January 7th 2022. This means tickets will be handled later than usual. Highly urgent tickets will still be handled.

Spot Virtual Machines are available

Spot Virtual Machines or spot instances are virtual machines that draw from the unused capacity of Microsoft Azure. These can be used at a great discount, however, these can also be evicted at any given time. anDREa has now made Spot VMs available!

Bug fix

Recently, some reports have reached us regarding resizing VMs. Requested VM sizes might appear twice in the resize menu. The double appearance of VMs in the resize menu most likely is caused by Promo versions of VMs of which the offer has been ended by Microsoft. By making use of a different API to display VM sizes this has been remediated.
