Tips and tricks for efficient usage

Since your workspace follows a pay-as-you-go model, it is important to use its resources efficiently. Simply put, you should only use what you actually need.
Below, we list the most important tips and tricks for efficient usage.
Following these tips and tricks will make sure that you spend your money well. There's also the added benefit of being more sustainable. Your workspace resources run on servers and require electricity. Making sure that you only use what you require, in the end constitutes a smaller burden on our environment.

Tips & tricks

Educate yourself and your fellow workspace members on the following tips and tricks for efficient usage:
  1. Turn off the VM(s) after each use, although you should make sure that nobody else is still using it.
  2. Make sure auto-shutdowns of the VMs are set up correctly, so that even when someone forgets to turn off the VM, it shuts down at some point. Note that you can change the auto-shutdown based on both time and timezone.
  3. Scale down VMs when you don't need as much computational power. You can investigate your VM's usage statistics in the Azure portal, and/or you can contact the Support Team for advice and recommendations via myDRE support.
  4. Only store files that you actually need, and delete files that are no longer relevant. This helps you save storage costs.
  5. Delete unused VMs on myDRE support. Even if the VM is not on, it still requires an OS disk, for which the default version (E10) runs at approximately 10€ per month.
