Workaround for the Missing B‑series and Fsv2‑series SKUs in the Azure Retail API

Workaround for the Missing B‑series and Fsv2‑series SKUs in the Azure Retail API

The B‑series and Fsv2‑series SKUs are currently unavailable in the Azure Retail API dataset, which means they do not appear as options when creating a new Virtual Machine (VM). We are actively working to resolve this issue.
In the meantime, you can still use these SKUs by scaling an existing VM to a B‑series or Fsv2‑series size.

Who Is Affected?

You are affected if you:
Want to create a new VM using a B‑series or Fsv2‑series SKU
Need to resize an existing VM to a B‑series or Fsv2‑series SKU

Who can do this?
  1. Accountable and Priviledge members
Workaround Step‑by‑Step Instructions

For New VMs first:
  1. Create your new VM using any available SKU currently shown in the Azure portal.
  2. Once the VM is deployed, follow the SKU resizing steps below.
How to Change/Resize Your VM to B‑Series or Fsv2‑Series for existing VMs
  1. In the user portal, click the three dots (⋮) in the top‑right corner of the VM tile.
  2. Select Manage and Monitor from the drop‑down menu.
  3. A screen will appear with a QR code. Below it, click Manage and Monitor [your VM name] — this will open the Azure portal.
  4. In the Azure portal, open the left‑side menu.
  5. Go to Availability + scale.
  6. Click Size.
  7. You will now see all available SKUs, including the B‑series and Fsv2‑series.
  8. Select your desired SKU.
    1. If the selected SKU is not compatible or available, Azure will generate an error explaining why.
  9. Click Resize.
  10. Refresh the MyDRE user portal — your VM should now reflect the new size.
