Summary:
When you want to use Microsoft based products/services (like Outlook) other than myDRE, it is best to create for myDRE a profile in your browser of choice or use a different browser. Scroll down on how to set up this for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.
Introduction
Not unlikely you have for your organization, or even yourself, a Microsoft account. A Microsoft account is an identity. To make your life easier, the identity with which you log in is used in all the tabs of your browser that belong to the same profile; even when you didn't set a profile, then you make use of a 'default' one.
The problem is when you need to use different identities. Browsers can get confused, do logouts, and do other kinds of things.
It used to be possible to open an in-private session, however, due to security settings, in-private sessions usually block cookies needed to verify your identity during your working sessions. The solution is either of the following:
- Create profiles for the different identities (see below how to do this)
- Use a different browser
- Only use one identity at a time
Setting up a profile in your browser
Google Chrome
- In Chrome browser, at the top right, click Profile.
- Click Manage people.
- Click Add person.
- Choose a name and a photo. - e.g. <myDRE>
- Click Save.
- A new window will open and ask you to turn on sync
Microsoft Edge
- Select Profile, then choose Manage profile settings.
- Select + Add profile; e.g. myDRE
- Select Add.
- Sign in to sync data, this can be skipped
Firefox
- Type about:profiles into the address bar
- Create a New Profile and follow the Create Profile Wizard
Safari
Safari doesn’t offer the option to create individual browser profiles. There is one way to get around, it though: If you use Safari on a Mac, you can set up different user profiles and use the different profiles for work and personal browsing.
