Activity Feed User Portal

Understanding the Activity Feed in myDRE User Portal

First version: 2024-05-21

The Activity Feed is a powerful tool that provides real-time insights into various actions and changes within the Workspace.

Warning
Mindful Usage to Manage Costs
It is important to remember that accessing the Activity Feed incurs costs, since it uses the shared resources of your organization. We encourage the Accountable and Privileged Members to access the feed only when necessary. This mindful approach helps in controlling expenses and using resources wisely. To ensure efficiency and immediate relevance, it will only display logs from the last 7 days upon initial view.

Access Permissions
Info
Only those with Accountable and Privileged roles have the privilege to view the Activity Feed in the User Portal.
Local Research Support Team members can view the Activity Feed across Workspaces in the Admin Portal.

Event types for Workspace and VM Operations

These events help you keep track of actions related to users, virtual machines, and domain access controls in your workspace.

Workspace User Events
1. User Added: When a new user is added to the workspace.
2. User Removed: When a user is removed from the workspace.
3. User Updated: When a user’s information is updated.
VM Operations Events
1. VM Started: When a virtual machine (VM) is started.
2. VM Stopped: When a VM is stopped.
3. VM Restarted: When a VM is restarted.
4. VM Deallocated: When a VM is stopped and its resources are deallocated.
5. VM Deleted: When a VM is deleted.
6. Spot VM Eviction: When a spot VM is evicted and stopped.
Domain ACL Events
1. Proxy Created: When a proxy configuration is created.
2. Proxy Deleted: When a proxy configuration is deleted.
3. Domain ACLs Created or Replaced: When domain access control lists (ACLs) are created or replaced.
4. Domain ACLs Inserted: When domain ACLs are inserted.
5. Domain ACLs Deleted: When domain ACLs are deleted.

What's Inside the Activity Feed?

When you first open the Activity Feed, you'll notice logs marked with different colors. Each color-coded to indicate different types of operations:

Purple: Indicates updates or replacements made to existing items, like domain ACLs.
Red: Signifies deletions, for example, a virtual machine being removed from the workspace.
Orange: Alerts you when a Virtual Machine has been stopped.
Green: Represents additions, such as new domain access control lists (ACLs).
Blue: Notifies you of a Virtual Machine startup.

Time to Reflect Logs
Please allow 20-25 minutes for the Activity Feed to reflect logs, particularly for new operations. This time-frame ensures the data is thoroughly processed and accurately presented.

Notes
Actor
If Actor looks like "digital research environment", it means that the end user, used anDREa portal to trigger this action which ended up using anDREa API to accomplish this task. We are planning to change this since it could be misleading.
